Top 5 Planty YouTubers AND Why I Love Them!

Entertainment and Education come together on the platform of YouTube.  As many “planty” YouTubers as species of Aroids exist for our viewing discretion. I’d like to review my top five favorites, and why I love them! Most of these “planty” friends share a certain quirkeyness all plant fanatics seem to emanate. What I seem to gravitate towards is intelligence, acceptance, and a willingness to share knowledge, mistakes and successes, and most importantly, their passion for plants!

My number one favorite is Miro from Basie Plants!  Miro has been on YouTube for a few years  and when he began he was quite timid. Now he has blossomed into someone who is clearly quite comfortable in his own skin.  This is fantastic because not only is he humorous he is very intelligent and informative to his viewers regarding plants; mainly Hoya! I have spent countless hours watching him construct different trellis and humidity solutions for his plants as well as many other care tips and tricks he's picked up along his plant journey. I personally enjoy knowing absolutely everything about my plants, down to their Latin names, so I particularly enjoy Miro’s series, on his channel, where he goes into a Hoya “deep dive”, where he discusses origin, discovery, cultivation and curation for each individual species he has selected. Basically if you love Hoya and sincerity, go watch Miro’s channel! https://www.youtube.com/c/BasiePlants/featured

Possibly the most famous newcomer to the rare plant YouTube game, would be Kaylee Ellen from the Rare Plant Shop. Newcomer is a relative term, she’s been making content for more than a few years. She is amazingly entertaining, light, and real! She is one to call “it” as “it” is, and with the good natured spirit she exudes, we all need someone to hold “planty” people to account! My favorite series on her channel is her “Rare Plant Index”, where she selects and rates commercially a variety of Aroid; such as Philodendron, Alocasia, Anthurium, Begonia, and even Hoya! Kaylee has a newer series, “Dish the Dirt” where she spills all of the plan”tea”, she cares so much that people do not get scammed when they add to their collections. On a more personal side, Kaylee documented her journey in expanding her business to a new large location, this is another series on her channel worth binging! Basically go watch all of her content!

Aimee from Wolfgang's Momma, is possibly the kindest, sweetest, plant YouTuber of them all. She plays calm classical style music in the background of all her videos, and it feels like having a conversation with a friend at a local coffee shop. She shares her life and journey with her plants with all of us. We are lucky to have her monthly videos on her top ten of the month favorite Hoya, and now top ten of the month favorite plants! She is fantastic to have on while watering or dusting your plants, or even while browsing for more plants as the joy she has for some of her plant babies is absolutely contagious.

Nicole from Plants, Pots, and Whatnots wins the plant momma and YouTuber of the Pandemic! When everything shut down, Nicole bought some plants and grow lights and kindly chatted our ears off with her planty stream of continuous speech! She opened her home and self up to other planty people to feel less alone during that difficult period. This Canadian is so darn funny and the fact that she never takes herself too seriously makes life seem less serious for me too! Check her out to get uplifted and laugh!

Summer Rayne Oaks from Plant One On Me is by far the standard when it comes to all things plant on YouTube. For many years she has been contributing to the collective knowledge and experience of botany, ecology, preservation, sustainable living and agriculture, as well as bringing her viewers with her to visit botanical gardens, greenhouses (public and private), private collections and many more magical plant filled places. My favorite, more recent, group of videos is Summer’s trip to the Missouri Botanical Gardens. She spent time with Dr Croat, but my favorite person Summer interviewed was Emily Colletti, the wonderful person in charge of tending to the teaching collections. No matter where you are on your plant journey, you will want to know SUmmer Rayne Oaks!

This feels like an endorsement, but like these lovely “planty” people sharing their stories, I must in turn share them with you!
